Using family mediation helps put children first

During Mediation Awareness Week 2016 we're exploring what Family Mediation is and how it can help you and your children

We introduced you to "Jack's Story", a short video telling a small part of the story of Jack's family's separation.

It is estimated that 1 in 3 children, like Jack, will experience parental separation before the age of 16.  The message from professionals is clear – in any family relationship breakdown it is important to put the kids first and make sure their needs are met.

Voices in the Middle is a project which gives children and young people an opportunity to share their stories and experiences of their parents’ separation.  As well as highlighting some of the negative impacts it provides lots of good information for parents about how to help and talk to your children during separation and divorce.  A lot of the advice is summed up in the words of 17 year old Oli,  “My advice to parents would be to limit involving your child as much as possible and reassure them as much as you can, it’s difficult for everyone”.

Family mediation is better for children.  It is a process that encourages parents to put children first and to limit the negative impact of family relationship breakdown on them.  You can find out more about Family Mediation and how it can help you and your children by contacting us on 0113 320 2288 to arrange a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting.
